Could your dog stay at your best friend’s house without your best friend quietly reconsidering the friendship?

That’s one of my favorite ways to think about whether training actually works in real life.

Because your best friend probably isn’t a dog trainer.

They have their own house.

Their own routine.

Maybe their own dog.

They have work to do, dinner to make, errands to run and a Netflix series they’re halfway through.

Your dog has to figure out how to live there too.

THE REAL TEST ISN’T WHETHER YOUR DOG LISTENS TO FELIX.

Can they settle while your friend works?

Respect things that aren’t theirs?

Share space with another dog?

Understand when it’s time to play—and when everybody has had enough of them?

Spend some time alone if your friend needs to leave?

Handle a different dinner routine, different furniture rules, different doors and a different bedtime?

Can another human communicate with them without needing a Felix instruction manual?

THAT’S PORTABILITY.

First, your dog learns how to communicate with you.

Then they practice inside my life.

Then we see whether those skills can travel back into your life—and eventually into somebody else’s.

My house isn’t the destination.

It’s one of the places we practice.

A STEEZY DOG SHOULD BE ABLE TO LIVE MORE THAN ONE LIFE.

Your house.

My house.

Your best friend’s house.

A hotel.

A campsite.

A road trip.

Wherever life happens to take them.
